BENEFITS OF OIL PULLING

OILING PULLING AND THE BENEFITS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF OILS

Various oils have similar but different health benefits.  All the oils mentioned do help with oral health.  Such as gingivitis, bad breath, bleeding gums, and whiter teeth.

COCONUT OIL – Unrefined/coldpressed, improves hair and skin, promotes weight loss, improves immunity, as well as heart health. It also has the ability to fight off viruses, bacteria and yeasts.

XTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL – Unrefined Xtra virgin.  Olive oil Improves eyesight, treats aches and pains.

SUNFLOWER OIL – Unrefined/Cold Pressed.  Sunflower oil is good for cleansing the kidneys.

SESAME OIL – Unrefined, cold pressed.  Sesame oil is high in Vitamin E, and has been found to improve the liver by stopping cholesterol absorption.  This oil is just as effective with 3 minutes of swishing as it is 10-20 with other oils.  It also promotes good dental health.

HOW IT WORKS

Is one of the oldest practices for health in the world.  It’s part of the tradition of Ayurvedic medicine.  Oil pulling pulls out toxins from the your body through your saliva as you either hold it in your mouth and/or swish it for 3 to 20 minutes.  Most state 15 to 20 minutes as being more effective.  In my research Sesame oil is just as effective for 3 minutes as it is for 15 to 20 minutes.  Other oils should be used for 15 to 20 minute duration for them to be most effective.

 SOME OF MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

I’ve had many problems in the past few years with my teeth.  I was desperate to try anything.  Oil pulling did not sound like fun, but I persevered and delved in.  Each morning while I shower preferable on an empty stomach. I take one to two tablespoon of oil and swish away.  There is no need to swish with force.  Do not swallow as you are releasing toxins, and drawing out bacteria and fungus from your body, so the last thing you want to do is put them back into your system.  After swishing I spit it out in the toilet, not the sink.  After ridding yourself of the oil, it’s very important to brush your teeth as well as scraping your tongue.  The many oils I’ve tried are cold pressed/unrefined x-virgin olive oil, Coconut oil, and sesame oil.  Personally I prefer the coconut oil.  Right away I noticed my teeth were getting whiter, my gums didn’t hurt and felt tighter, it helped with dry mouth,  TMJ, after a few months my jaw stopped locking up, which I can attest is very painful, and the nerve pain I was experiencing from dental work diminished greatly.  My teeth also feel like I just had a cleaning.  The hygienist who cleans my teeth was impressed with how clean my teeth were, and how much my gums had improved.  I told her what I was doing.  She indicated that she had other patients who did this as well, and has witnessed great results from them doing it.  We both laughed and I said a dentists worst nightmare.

WILL OIL PULLING HURT MY FILLINGS OR CAPS

I have been oiling pulling for 3 years and have not had any problems with my caps or fillings.  Just overall improved teeth and gums as well as health.  I have more energy, lost weight, and greatly reduced head fog.

NOT JUST FOR GUMS AND TEETH

Oil pulling is not just for teeth, it’s also improved my complexion, hair, my stomach is flatter.  Others have claimed it improved their sleep, hormone imbalance, reduction of eczema, improved digestion, bad breath, bleeding gums, reduced swelling in bones and joints, Migraine headaches.

I later learned more about oil therapy / oil swishing from my Kinesiologist.  He strongly recommended I continue with my daily regiment of swishing with oil daily to keep my immunity system strong and to maintain good overall health.  Having experienced going through two root canals both of which failed.  I’m guessing I’m in the 3% failure rate when it comes to these.  Also might add, after having a root canal I felt fatigued and not myself.  Upon having both teeth pulled I felt like a new person.

GUIDELINES ON HOW TO DO OIL PULLING

  • For best results swish in the morning on an empty stomach before brushing your teeth. I usually do this while taking a shower
  • Take one to two tablespoons of cold pressed oil of your choice
  • Swish the oil around in your mouth, “chew it”, (chewing motion activates enzymes), and mix it with your saliva for 10 to 20 minutes. The oil should be thinner and white.  Do not swallow the oil
  • It’s recommended to spit the oil out into the toilet
  • Immediately brush your gums, teeth and tongue with warm salt/baking soda water (1 cup to ½ teaspoon salt or baking soda)
  • Gargle with the remaining salt/soda water
  • Optional, it’s helpful to tip the glass of salt or soda water under the nose and gently sniff up water to clean your nasal passages. Then gently blow your nose
  • Its also recommended to clean the sink afterward because the saliva contains harmful bacteria and toxic bodily waste

HOW OFTEN SHOULD ONE OIL PULL?

If you are experiencing chronic health issues, it’s recommended to swish daily until symptoms go away.  Some opt to stop.  I still do a daily regiment of oil pulling, but doing it at least 2 to 3 times a week is very effective for your overall health and keeps at bay situations from arising again.
