Did you ever ask yourself what are those food additives/chemicals that we have a hard time pronouncing on the labels of the food we buy? Some of these chemicals may shock you. In my research I’ve noticed that most additives are known to cause weight gain, hence the obesity problems we have today in the states. One of the best ways to avoid these additives is to eat healthy fruits and vegetables, home grown if possible. Organic foods have been known to be better than non-organic. Reading labels is cumbersome but key to knowing what your’re putting in your body.
6 CHEMICAL ADDITIVES IN OUR FOOD
GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)
GMO’s are genetically modified lab grown organism that come from plants, animals and other foreign organisms. Most corn products are high in GMO due to corn is known to be a highly genetically modified food source. The DNA used has been altered and does not happen naturally. They produce food higher in bacteria and virus genes which have been known to cause digestive problems, allergies to mention a few.
This ingredient has been banned in many countries. Some companies such as Subway who use it in their bread, are doing away with it. Azodicarbonamide is used to make rubber, synthetic leather, yoga pants. Is that something you would normally want to eat? This chemical is known to cause respiratory problems, Asthma, allergies.
MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)
MSG is used in many Chinese foods as well as frozen and canned foods. MSG is a flavor enhancer. It has been approved by the FDA, but is it safe? Many people experience headaches, sweating (feeling flush), disorientation, heart palpitations, fatigue, depression. It has also been linked to weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, seizures, stokes, and fibromyalgia.
Steriods & Growth Hormones
Steroids and growth hormones started to be added to our meats and dairy products in the 1950’s. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a good probiotic supplement. Do these additives alter our own hormones? The answer is most likely yes. The abundance of antibiotics in our system can cause a resistance to certain bacteria’s. The antibiotics used in cows can be harmful to humans as well.
Side effects from steroids and hormones have been known to increase our risk of cancer, prostate and breast tumors, as well as interfere with our natural intestinal flora tract. They also decrease estrogen production in woman.
Petroleum a lubricant? Can you believe we actually eat this product in some of our foods. Petroleum additives are commonly used in our foods coloring, such as jello, kool-aide, corn chips, and eek, fresh apples? It’s even used in your pets food. Yellow 5 and yellow 6 as well as red 40 have been known to have harmful side effects. When tested on rats it has been found to cause tumors and cancer in the adrenal glands. Petroleum is also high in containing metals such as aluminum that can store themselves into your bodies system. Medicinal Clay is good to remove medals from your system.
Calcium Sulfate is a thickening agent. Many of the condiments we use contain calcium sulfate as do sweeteners, alcoholic beverages, candies and custards. Calcium Sulfate additive’s can cause, fatigue, mood swings, vomiting, loss of appetite. The main use of Calcium Sulfate is a product to produce plaster of Paris and stucco.
